NEWS & VIEWS In keeping with our tag line as “the award-winning flagship publication of the National Pastoral Life Center,” CHURCH was presented this year with three awards in the competition conducted annually by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada. In our category of “professional and special-interest magazines,” the second place award for Best Essay was given to Sister Ellen Rufft, cdp, a frequent contributer to CHURCH, for “A Good Reason for Everything,” published in spring 2008. In the competition for Best Review Section, in which CHURCH competed against all magazine and newsletter entries, CHURCH won both second and third place: second for the winter 2008 edition with reviews by the Rev. Robert Barron, Msgr. Harry J. Byrne, CHURCH editor Liz O’Connor, and NPLC social action and pastoral planning director Hope Villella; and third for the spring 2008 issue with reviews by Deacon Thomas W. Gornick, editor Liz O’Connor, Jeffry Odell Korgen, and the Rev. John F. Russell, ocarm. America magazine took first place for best review section. CHURCH is grateful to all the contributors who earned these awards for the magazine.
